Congratulations to the SEAS Class of 2019!

Members of the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science community celebrated the awarding of 225 undergraduate Engineering degrees on May 20, 2019.

Degrees in Biomedical Engineering were conferred upon 33 members of the class of 2018; in Chemical Engineering, 15 degrees; in Computer Science, 115 degrees; in Electrical Engineering, 22 degrees; in Environmental Engineering, 8 degrees; and in Mechanical Engineering, 49 degrees.

In addition to the conferring of degrees, numerous graduating seniors were honored for their achievements.

Simon Whiteman, chemical engineering major with a 3.97 GPA, received the 2019 William Neely Mallory Award, the most prestigious athletic award given to a senior male at Yale. Whiteman, who captained the Yale baseball team, is also a Rhodes Scholar candidate and a Major League Baseball prospect.

Eren Orbey, who had a double-major in Computer Science and English, was awarded the Louis Sudler Prize for Excellence in the Performing and Creative Arts for his extraordinary literary gifts and his promise as a writer. Orbey, who has contributed numerous essays and profiles to The New Yorker, will pursue graduate studies in Modern Middle Eastern Studies at Oxford next year as a Rhodes Scholar.

Hannah Louise Lawrence, who had a double major in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, was awarded the Russell Henry Chittenden Prize in recognition of her commitment to academic excellence. Lawrence graduates summa cum laude with distinction in both her majors after completing 41.5 course credits, 40.5 of which were grades of straight A's. She also played violin for the Yale Symphony Orchestra.

Winston Huynh, who received a B.S. and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, received the the Henry Prentiss Becton Prize, awarded to a Senior for rewarding and encouraging outstanding student performance.

Lili Wang, a Ph.D. candidate in electrical engineering, received the Henry Prentiss Becton Graduate Prize for exceptional achievement in research in Engineering & Applied Science. Wang, whose research has focused on the area of multi-agent systems in the field of automatic control, was a co-author on six full-length journal publications and was the lead author on one of them.
