The Henry Prentiss Becton Graduate Prize, awarded for exceptional achievement in research in Engineering & Applied Science, was awarded to Lili Wang, a Ph.D. candidate in the lab of Steven Morse, the Dudley Professor of Electrical Engineering.

SEAS Acting Dean Mitchell Smooke presented Wang with the award Wednesday at this year’s Crest & Fest.

Wang, whose research has focused on the area of multi-agent systems in the field of automatic control, was a co-author on six full-length journal publications and was the lead author on one of them. Most of these have appeared in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, which is the top journal in the control field worldwide.

She has co-authored 17 peer-reviewed published conference papers, 11 of which she is lead author. They were presented at highly ranked technical conferences in the field, including the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and the American Control Conference.

In his letter of nomination, Morse wrote that Wang’s personality, dedication and attention to detail has been a great benefit to his lab.

“She is one of the most positive thinking individuals I have ever met,” Morse wrote. “Everybody knows Lili. For several years she has been the teaching fellow for my course in linear systems. I think she has been one of the most successful teaching fellows Yale Engineering has ever had. Students taking the course rave about her. Lili’s real strength is her unusual ability to interact very favorably with all sorts of people. I expect that when she finishes she will be able to use this skill to great advantage as she advances in career."
