Zimmerman Wins Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize

Julie Zimmerman, Associate Professor of Chemical & Environmental Engineering & Forestry & Environmental Studies, has received the 2012 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize. The Prize is awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineers to members who demonstrate notable achievements in research related to civil engineering, and particularly to younger members who are expected to maintain fruitful research careers.

Zimmerman was honored with the award “For innovative research and development of sustainable, cost-effective technologies for the treatment of drinking water.” Her research focuses on the application of green chemistry and green engineering principles to the design of products, processes and systems, particularly in the areas of water treatment and renewable feedstocks for energy and materials; policy design and analysis for sustainability; and the development of water treatment technologies for developing communities.
