03/25/2019

Rong Fan and Fahmeed Hyder have been elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).

The two faculty members of the Biomedical Engineering department were inducted Monday at a ceremony that was held during the AIMBE Annual Meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. Fan and Hyder were among 156 colleagues who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2019.

Hyder, professor of biomedical engineering and radiology & biomedical imaging, was cited for “outstanding contributions to MRI studies of brain physiology and chemistry, revealing how neuronal- glial cells fuel their function and (re)growth.”

Fan, associate professor of biomedical engineering, was cited for “outstanding contributions to the development and commercialization of single-cell high-plex cytokine profiling technologies and the impact on cancer immunotherapy.”

"The Yale BME family celebrates the election of professors Rong Fan and Fahmeed Hyder as Fellows of AIMBE in recognition of their truly outstanding contributions to biomedical engineering and our overall goal of improving human health," said Jay Humphrey, the John C. Malone Professor of Biomedical Engineering and department chair.

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.

AIMBE is an advocate for the value of medical and biological engineering to society. Its mission is to recognize excellence, advance the public understanding, and accelerate medical and biological innovation. While most AIMBE Fellows hail from the United States, the College of Fellows has inducted Fellows representing 30 countries. AIMBE Fellows are employed in academia, industry, clinical practice and government.
