O'Hern and Bertrand Explain "The Mysteries of Sand" (Video)

Q: How tall is the world's tallest sand castle? A: 42 feet!

That’s just one of the many grain-related facts in a public lecture recently given by Prof. Corey O'Hern and Dr. Thibault Bertrand on the "The Mysteries of Sand.” Using water pitchers, hourglasses, glass pebbles, coffee beans and other props, O’Hern and Bertrand demonstrated the interesting properties of non-thermal granular media (such as sand and powder) to a crowd of elementary and junior high school students in Davies Auditorium.

The lecture was sponsored by Yale's CRISP and Pathways to Science.
