Elimelech Awarded for Excellence in Advancing Diversity

Menachem Elimelech, the Roberto C. Goizueta Professor of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the Liza Cariaga-Lo Award for Excellence in Advancing Diversity by the Yale University Graduate School for Arts and Sciences.

The Liza Cariaga-Lo Award for Excellence in Advancing Diversity was named for the founding director of Yale’s Office for Diversity and Equal Opportunity who served as Yale’s assistant dean from 2000–2007 before joining the staff at Harvard as assistant provost. The award is given to one graduate student and one faculty member who have shown deep commitment to furthering diversity through research or university service.

Elimelech, the chair of the Chemical Engineering Department and director of the Environmental Engineering Program at Yale’s School of Engineering & Applied Science, was awarded for “demonstrating excellence in significantly furthering diversity in Yale’s faculty ranks. In the past three years, he has targeted and successfully recruited five outstanding new junior faculty members to the Chemical Engineering Department. These new hires included two women and three men from traditionally underrepresented groups."
