Afghanistan robotics team meets Yale mentors

The all-female Afghanistan robotics team visited the Yale Center for Engineering Innovation and Design (CEID) on Monday, where they met the three Yale students helping them prepare for this summer’s First Global, an international robotics contest.

With team leader Roya Mahboob, the team members are Fatemah Qaderayan, Lida Azizi, Donya Barakzai, Somaya Faruqi, and Alireza Mehraban. 

Yale students Emily Chu ’19, Laura Wayland ’21, and Rowan Palmer ’21 have been coaching the Afghanistan students via Skype as part of a program of the FIRST Robotics competition in which a university mentors a team from another nation.

The team made headlines last year after initially being denied U.S. visas for last year’s competition. Their CEID visit was part of a larger tour of the Yale campus.
