Tassiulas Receives 2016 IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computers and Communications Award

07/01/2015

Leandro Tassiulas, the John C. Malone Professor of Electrical Engineering, has been named the recipient of the 2016 IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computers and Communications Award. The IEEE Board of Directors chose Tassiulas for his "contributions to the scheduling and stability analysis of networks."

Tassiulas's research interests are in the field of computer and communication networks with an emphasis on fundamental mathematical models and algorithms of complex networks, architectures and protocols of wireless systems, sensor networks, novel internet architectures and experimental platforms for network research. His most notable contributions include the max-weight scheduling algorithm and the back-pressure network control policy, opportunistic scheduling in wireless, the maximum lifetime approach for wireless network energy management, and the consideration of joint access control and antenna transmission management in multiple antenna wireless systems.

The IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computers and Communications Award was established by the IEEE Board of Directors in 1986 for outstanding contributions to the integration of computers and communications. The award is named in honor of Dr. Koji Kobayashi, who has been a leading force in advancing the integrated use of computers and communications. The award consists of a bronze medal, certificate and honorarium.
