Rosner Artwork On Display At New Haven Lawn Club

The artwork of Daniel E. Rosner, Professor Emeritus and former Chairman of Yale's Department of Chemical Engineering, is on display at the New Haven Lawn Club from May 10 to July 11. The exhibition, titled "Alternate Perspectives," features 20 of Rosner's watercolor paintings and 18 photographs by Penrhyn Cook. An artist's reception will be held on May 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

As an artist, Rosner is a "realist" whose paintings have recently focused on a number of Yale University's most iconic architectural treasures, often from unusual vantage points. His work was initially motivated by the desire to provide a personalized memento - specifically, reproductions of his painting of Mason Lab - to each of his 23 former PhD students. But he sensed a much broader interest in fresh views of several iconic Yale University buildings---including Payne-Whitney gym (pictured here), Harkness Tower, Strathcona Hall, Law School, Vanderbilt Hall, Wrexham Tower, Hall of Graduate Studies, Sterling Memorial Library and Morse College.

Rosner, who is currently a research professor, has previously exhibited in Yale's Morse College (October 2014) and the Koerner Center for Emeritus Yale Faculty (May 2015).

Prof. Rosner studied graphic arts/printmaking at the High School of Music & Art in New York, graduating as August St. Gaudens Medalist in 1951. His art went on hold until the 1970s, when he resumed printmaking at New Haven's Creative Arts Workshop. His work has been published in Science magazine and The New York Times. He is currently a member of the New Haven Paint & Clay, and the Hamden Art League.

The New Haven Lawn Club is at 193 Whitney Ave.
